HOBBIES

Prior to my university position, I have worked as a software engineer in information security, a data scientist, and later as a mid-manager in A1 Telecom. I have always coded in Python, and a fraction of my code can be seen on my Github page (username: skansi), but most proprietary code is not publicly available.

 

When I was a kid I loved Warhammer 40K, more specifically Necromunda. I still google about it and somewhat follow the new stuff but I haven't played for decades now. Out of games, I was a fan of the Fallout franchise from 1996 up to today. I grew up watching endlessly Pulp Fiction, back in the VHS days, and I loved Star Trek TNG and the Simpsons. Parks and Recreation, The Office (US) and Doc Martin are my more recent favorite shows, and I like the Croatian show Black and White World.

 

I used to play rugby for RK Zagreb and I even had two caps for Croatia U18. I also trained kendo, where I reached ni-kyu (two steps below the 1. dan or "black belt"). Today I am into sport shooting, where I won a couple of regional medals for large caliber bullseye handgun (oddly enough, all silver), but I am focusing more and more on IPSC Production.

Politically I am an uncompromising libertarian, but in Croatia, a libertarian has no choice but to compromise. I am bilingual in Croatian and Italian, and I know English and Venetian. I know to a lesser degree several more languages, but I am not nearly fluent enough to even mention them.

I love German Shepherds and horses, but lately I have become quite fond of cats. There is no animal I fear and most people that know me say I should have been a veterinarian. I like to hike, and my favorite mountains are in the Risnjak National Park, although Zavižan was amazing too. Like all members of my family, I have a skipper license, but I have never really used it.
